The aim of this programme is to develop your skills and confidence in supporting people to optimise their adherence to medicines in asthma. You will consider how to identify non-adherence, the different types of non-adherence and how to use a person-centred approach to optimise adherence through personalised interventions.
This Respiratory Assessment and Examination Level 7 module has been designed to enable the student to analyse the role of history taking, respiratory assessment and examination in the diagnosis of respiratory conditions.
Students will advance their knowledge and understanding of the assessment process to consider the complex interrelationships between patient and practitioner and to evaluate the appropriate use of investigations and clinical examination, enabling them to work through the diagnostic process systematically, using reasoned deduction.
The module contributes to the development of knowledge and understanding of clinical examination and the principles which underpin respiratory assessment and diagnosis.
This Spirometry Interactive Blended Online Learning Package is designed for healthcare professionals who are responsible for performing, recording and interpreting spirometry in adults, or a combination of these.
Participants can join this course at any time, there are no set start dates. Participants have six months to complete their studies; enabling them to learn at a pace that best suits them.
Our learning materials combine interviews with respiratory experts, podcasts and eLearning chapters. The content is created by a team of expert clinicians and aligns with ARTP standards. Each month, a live interactive tutorial is held to ensure learners have opportunities to check their understanding with their clinical tutor, ask questions and share best practice with other learners. The live monthly tutorial is divided into three groups, to ensure content and discussions are pitched at the right level for each learner's needs (beginner to intermediate; intermediate to advanced; and HCAs).
The Spirometry online learning package is specifically designed to give learners the knowledge and know-how to demonstrate competence in spirometry; enabling learners to assess their patients with both confidence and competence.
Clinical investigations are important to enable clinicians to help confirm or rule out suspected diagnosis. Common investigations performed in primary or secondary care include spirometry, PEF monitoring, arterial and capillary blood gas analysis, x-ray, allergy testing and a variety of other tests.
The Respiratory Diagnostics Level 7 module, validated by the University of Hertfordshire, will address the principles underpinning a number of respiratory investigations and will seek to provide studies with a critical view of the accuracy and validity of the tests, by consideration of the concepts of sensitivity and specificity.
Linked to this the students will also explore the importance of utilising the patient and the patient's history to both guide the selection and interpretation of investigation results to reach firm conclusions to inform diagnosis.
