Patient Group Directions (PGDs) enable pharmacists to provide medicines and vaccines privately to support a wide range of patient groups and conditions. The NPA offers vaccination training and PGDs through our partnerships at very competitive rates on an extensive range of flu, travel, vaccination and non-vaccination/clinical (formerly oral/topical) PGDs.
The overall aim of this programme is to develop your knowledge and skills to enable you to optimise infection management in primary care by interpreting antimicrobial prescribing metrics, identifying quality improvement opportunities and recognising infection prevention and control as an integral part of antimicrobial stewardship.
The programme consists of a core knowledge session and separate knowledge sessions for each vaccine in current use. There are also accompanying assessment sessions for each knowledge session. All those undertaking this elearning should complete the core knowledge session as this is designed to provide essential knowledge about COVID-19 and the key principles of immunisation needed to deliver the vaccines. Learners should then complete the vaccine-specific knowledge sessions for the vaccine(s) they will be involved in giving as these provide more detailed information. This includes how the vaccine works, how it should be stored, prepared and administered and any contraindications, precautions and potential vaccine reactions. The assessment sessions should then be completed after each knowledge session.
This elearning programme aims to provide trainee pharmacists and early careers pharmacists with an insight into the variety of different clinical scenarios that may be encountered out of normal working hours. Created in partnership with the National Foundation Pharmacist Programme, these assessments provide learners with knowledge and confidence in how to manage different clinical queries independently. In addition, learners will become familiar with using a range of resources to help answer queries and respond appropriately.
This programme consists of:

Learners should attempt to complete the core assessment as a minimum prior to undertaking an on-call shift. It is recommended that learners also complete the specialist assessments for their own development as appropriate. This programme should be considered as a supplementary resource alongside existing local induction and training for on-call pharmacists.
The aim of this learning programme is to improve the pharmacy team’s knowledge of influenza and their skills in delivering an integrated, patient-centred flu vaccination service.
