Research Applied to Practice Level 7 module
This Research Applied to Practice Level 7 module, validated by the University of Hertfordshire, will enable students to focus upon the application of aspects of research and evidence-based practice which are relevant to their specific area of study, discipline and clinical setting. Students will enhance their skills and expertise to identify, access and appraise knowledge, literature and research evidence from a wealth of sources and contextualise it within practice. During the module, students will seek to ensure that they have an understanding of the underpinning philosophy in order to critically appraise the findings relevant to their discipline.
Practitioners working at this level are involved in advancing respiratory related knowledge and informing policy, professional practice and academic debate. Clearly this can be achieved via involvement in original or primary research but more frequently is the result of identifying, accessing and critically appraising available research and evidence to evaluate the appropriateness and/or effectiveness in practice.
Transforming Dementia Care Level 7 module
This Transforming Dementia Care Level 7 module will enable students to develop as leaders in the delivery of person centred care and the progression of research, skills and knowledge in relation to the care and management of the person with dementia and their family.
Caring for the person with dementia and their families has for many years included a person-centred approach. However, with an increasing ageing population and increasing number of people with dementia the importance of timely diagnosis, approach to treatment and preparation for the person's journey plays a vital role in maintaining good quality of life and reduced inappropriate hospital admissions whilst avoiding under treatment or over-burdensome treatments for the person living with dementia.
The module will critically review the current approaches, research and treatments in relation to the different types of dementia, the disease trajectory including end of life care. Due to the nature of the condition ethical decision making is fundamental to quality of life throughout the disease journey and into end of life care and therefore will underpin the module.
Strategies for Assessment and Feedback to Support Clinical Practice Level 7 module
This Strategies for Assessment and Feedback to Support Clinical Practice Level 7 module offers a flexible method of learning to meet the educational and development needs of practitioners who are involved in teaching and assessing individuals or groups in a variety of health care environments.
The purpose of this module is to enable health care practitioners to develop their knowledge and skills in creating innovative assessment strategies appropriate to support learners in their clinical environment appropriately aligned with learning outcomes. They will also develop an understanding of the different methods of feedback and gain skills in delivering feedback in a variety of situations.
Respiratory Diagnostics Level 7 module
Clinical investigations are important to enable clinicians to help confirm or rule out suspected diagnosis. Common investigations performed in primary or secondary care include spirometry, PEF monitoring, arterial and capillary blood gas analysis, x-ray, allergy testing and a variety of other tests.
The Respiratory Diagnostics Level 7 module, validated by the University of Hertfordshire, will address the principles underpinning a number of respiratory investigations and will seek to provide studies with a critical view of the accuracy and validity of the tests, by consideration of the concepts of sensitivity and specificity.
Linked to this the students will also explore the importance of utilising the patient and the patient's history to both guide the selection and interpretation of investigation results to reach firm conclusions to inform diagnosis.
Respiratory Assessment and Examination Level 7 module
This Respiratory Assessment and Examination Level 7 module has been designed to enable the student to analyse the role of history taking, respiratory assessment and examination in the diagnosis of respiratory conditions.
Students will advance their knowledge and understanding of the assessment process to consider the complex interrelationships between patient and practitioner and to evaluate the appropriate use of investigations and clinical examination, enabling them to work through the diagnostic process systematically, using reasoned deduction.
The module contributes to the development of knowledge and understanding of clinical examination and the principles which underpin respiratory assessment and diagnosis.
Leadership for Quality Improvement in Long Term Conditions Level 7 module
The Leadership for Quality Improvement in Long Term Conditions Level 7 module has been designed to further the student's leadership skills by demonstrating personal qualities such as self-awareness, managing self and others, reflective practice, influencing skills and overcoming difficult situations. During the module, students will advance their knowledge and understanding of collaborative working and care integration; developing networks, benefits and challenges, working with teams, facilitation skills and stages of team development.
Within the module students will consider managing services including planning, implementing policy, patient and carer involvement and empowerment to self-manage, service redesign, 'lean' methodology, value stream mapping and managing risk.
In addition, students will study managing people, leading service improvement and setting direction, this will encompass building and nurturing an improvement culture, reflective practice, national/local patient safety policies, quality improvement methodology, learning from adverse events, identifying contexts for change, health policy and evaluation and sustainability and spread of change.
Frailty as a Long Term Condition Level 7 module
Person-centred approaches to care will be at the centre of this Frailty as a Long Term Condition Level 7 module's content.
Successful students will develop as leaders in the delivery of person-centred care, and progress their skills and knowledge in relation to the complexity of living with frailty. It will enhance your knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes in relation to current treatment, management and risk avoidance of different aspects and challenges of frailty.
The importance of excellent communication skills and effective collaborative working will be emphasised and explored in relation to the person living with frailty. Current key legislation, local, national and international drivers will be explored and applied to the management within your organisation. You will also critically review the interface of health and social care.
Ethical Issues in Long Term Conditions Level 7 module
This Ethical Issues in Long Term Conditions Level 7 module contributes to the development of knowledge and understanding of the ethical principles that should underpin clinical decision-making. There will be emphasis on ethical frameworks that can be applied to a range of common ethical dilemmas that healthcare professionals face in their day to day activities.
Students will have the opportunity to engage in debate and discussion of some selected clinical scenarios such as the denial of long term oxygen therapy to those who continue to smoke, truth telling and killing and letting die. This module enables the student to study ethical issues within the context of healthcare, and specifically in people with long term conditions.
Through a series of formal presentations, lectures and self-directed study, students will be able to articulate the rationale for a particular course of action. Clinical scenarios and personal reflection from students will form the basis for debate and discussion.
Enhancing the Diagnostic and Management of Respiratory Disease Level 7 module
This Enhancing the Diagnostic and Management of Respiratory Disease Level 7 module is suitable for healthcare professionals (HCPs) and professions allied to medicine (PAMs) who are involved in the differential diagnosis and management of respiratory disease.
The Enhancing the Diagnostic and Management of Respiratory Disease Level 7 module will enable learners to ensure the timely and effective diagnosis and appropriate management of people presenting with respiratory symptoms. Symptoms such as breathlessness, cough and wheeze are common in a range of respiratory (and other) conditions and this module supports HCPs and PAMs to take a deductive and analytical approach to making a diagnosis.
One condition will then be chosen by the HCP/PAM in order that they might evaluate treatment options for people with this condition, synthesising an evidence-based approach.
