Non Medical Prescribing

Course description:

This module has been developed following the Government's decision to extend prescribing responsibilities to Nurses, Pharmacists and some Allied Health Professional groups.

There are three pathways available on this module depending on your specialism.

Pharmacist Independent Prescribing (available at Level 7)

This module is run as a blended taught version with 10.5 days in the University and the remaining study time online/blended.

The aim of this module is to enable pharmacists to practise and develop as prescribers and to meet the standards set by the General Pharmaceutical Council. (The students on successful completion of this module will also be a supplementary prescriber).

Nurse Independent and Supplementary Prescribing (available at Level 6 and Level 7)

This module aims to prepare nurses, midwives and specialist community public health nurses to prescribe safely, appropriately and cost effectively as an independent / supplementary prescriber.

Physiotherapist, Chiropodist, Podiatrist and Paramedic Independent and Supplementary Prescribing (available at Level 6 and Level 7)

The aim of the module is to enable physiotherapist/chiropodist/podiatrist/paramedic to demonstrate their knowledge, competence and safety in the principal areas of independent and supplementary prescribing. It will also enable physiotherapist/chiropodist/podiatrist/paramedic to apply and integrate theory to practice in their area of professional practice.
