Haemorrhoids are common in the Western world, particularly during pregnancy, although incidence is difficult to quantify as only a minority of sufferers seek treatment.¹ Although most cases are straightforward to treat,^2,3 complications can occur.⁴ Careful evaluation is important to rule out other causes.
