AMS Out of Hours

Course description:

This elearning programme aims to provide trainee pharmacists and early careers pharmacists with an insight into the variety of different clinical scenarios that may be encountered out of normal working hours. Created in partnership with the National Foundation Pharmacist Programme, these assessments provide learners with knowledge and confidence in how to manage different clinical queries independently. In addition, learners will become familiar with using a range of resources to help answer queries and respond appropriately.

This programme consists of:

A core assessment comprised of scenarios in the following topics:

  • General medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Renal
  • Women’s & children
  • Administration
  • High risk drugs
  • Microbiology
  • Drug interactions
  • Prioritisation of queries

Specialist assessments comprised of scenarios in the following topics:

  • Mental health
  • Clinical trials
  • Haematology
  • Liver
  • Aseptics and parenteral nutrition

Learners should attempt to complete the core assessment as a minimum prior to undertaking an on-call shift. It is recommended that learners also complete the specialist assessments for their own development as appropriate. This programme should be considered as a supplementary resource alongside existing local induction and training for on-call pharmacists.
