Advising patients with dental and oral soft tissue pain

Course description:

An increased demand for dental services has led to urgent dental appointments being delayed. As such, Pharmacists and Pharmacy teams are seeing more cases of toothache and oral pain, and being asked for advice. Advising these customers on the most appropriate course of action will help the NHS to cope with the recent rise in demand for dental services, and to deal effectively with genuine dental emergencies.

After studying this module, you should:

  • Understand that pharmacists have an important role to play in helping customers manage toothache and other oral pain while awaiting a dental appointment
  • Know what products are available for customers to safely self-medicate their dental/oral pain
  • Confidently guide customers to seek the most appropriate dental care for their situation
